THE BULL AT NEWPORT PAGNELL A new accoustic session starting at the bull on Tuesday evening at 8PM. Terry and Lisa of the Bull Public House would like it to be weekly, but Joe and I said we would see how it goes so if you are thinking of where to go on a Tuesday night to play or listen to some live Music get yourselves to the Bull tomorrow night (March 6th).

This years Leighton Buzzard Oxjam Live Music Festival is due to start on 10th March with about 37 different music events of all types and styles throughout March. See the website : www.oxjamleightonbuzzard.org
I have been organising the Folkie end of the spectrum for this and it would be great if some familiar faces could come along for support, and of course to enjoy themselves :

1) Sat 10th March : Barn Dance at Brooklands Community Hall, Garden Leys, Leighton Buzzard LU7 3XP 8 - 11pm
with excellent local band "Calamity's Fling" plus probably yours truly being roped in as an extra fiddle player. A bargain at only £5 ticket available from me (tel. 07757621745) or on the door. Nibbles and bar available. Great fun for all the family, no experience necessary bring your kids and even your granny along !

2) Sat 17th March : St Patricks night open folk session at The Sun Inn, Lake Street, Leighton Buzzard LU7 1RX. 8.30 til late.
The landlord contacted me asking if the musicians would stay at his pub all evening (unlike previous years when we have pub-crawled around town). So he will put on some sandwiches for us - and he did mutter something about free soft drinks for the nominated drivers - so I'll pin him down on that one ! So please all you singers and musicians, do come along and join me for a rollicking Irish night of tunes and songs. I can't do it all on my fiddle lonesome !!

3) Sun 18th March : Ballad & Poetry evening at Morgans Wine Bar, High Street, Leighton Buzzard LU7 1DU 7 - 10.30pm.
A sort of open-mic type set up. There will be some planned spots in the evening, plus others available for whoever turns up on the night, so do let me know if you'd like a spot in advance, (email me or tel. 07757621745) otherwise, do come along on the night.

4) Friday 30th March : Open Folk Session at Ashwell Arms, Ashwell Street. 8.30 til late.
The usual Ashwell monthly folk session, but brought forward a week to be in March. Open to all singers, bards, musicians etc.

Forester's return

The Forester's Arms in Stony Stratford is returning to the listings with Kev Hickman & Alex Wesley hosting a weekly Tuesday session at the venue. (see Kev's message on the board).

"Scribal Gathering" moves

The Stony Stratford "Scribal Gathering" open mic is relocating from the Cock Hotel to the front bar of the Bull Hotel. This will be in effect tonight (Feb.14th). Apologies for short notice but have only just received message.

Jazz at the Cannon

For those with an inclination for jazz the following info. has been received from Dick Clarke....

JATC runs fortnightly Jazz sessions at the Cannon Pub, High St. Newport Pagnell. There is a resident band JP Jazz Quartet and sitting in is by invitation only (ie: not strictly an ~open mic~ policy). There are also frequent guest nights featuring up and coming and/or ~name~ artists who can decide if they will allow sitting in while they are playing (most usually do).

admission is free.

New open mic in Newport Pagnell

Sam Ficek informs of a new open mic session at "The Watershed" live music venue recently opened in Newport Pagnell. It is held every Tuesday evening and details can be found here.

Bletchley Arms finishes

Jill informs that the fortnightly open mic at The Bletchley Arms unfortunately failed to take-off so it has been decided to pull the plug on it. She confirms The Stag at Leighton Buzzard remains well supported so hopefully will continue to be a popular venue.

Woburn Sands Fund raising ceilidh

This Saturday 28th January at the Summerlin Hall in Woburn Sands. Moonshine with Lynn Swain calling. Doors open 8.00pm. Bar, tickets £8, under 16's and car parking free.

A thinning list

As well as the sad demise of Jeremy's session at the Cuckoo's Nest in Gawcott (see Sue's message) Geoff has now confirmed that the Irish session at the Cock in Roade has definitely finished so bit of an inauspicious start to the new year.

Plough open mic finishes

Hanslope Working Men's Club session

The location for this coming Sunday's (January 8th) inaugral lunchtime session at Hanslope Working Men's Club has been added to the Session Finder. Following sessions will be on the 1st Sunday of the month.

All still well at The Cannon

It appears from Ade's message that the Thursday night open mic at The Cannon is still going strong so apologies for being in error reporting its demise.

I am extremely grateful for any information that is sent in for the website often relies on your input to keep things accurate (!). This is especially true for the open mic sessions.

Sportsman's Arms, Wing

Steve informs that The Sportsman's Arms session in Wing will be taking place this week on Tuesday December 27th.

Hi Folks. It’s official – The Hanslope Session has a new home. January 8th, Joyce (Club Steward) and her team at Hanslope Working Men’s Club will be happy to welcome as many as will to the Sunday lunchtime session, and we revert to the first Sunday from Feb onwards. For those of you not too familiar with Hanslope, it is on the High Street (That’s the road directly opposite the front door of the Watts Arms), about ¾ the way up, towards the church, on the right. There is a large car park. The entrance is round the side – as you go in you’ll see a bar directly in front of you, this is where we’ll be. See you there!

Steppers Band Fund Raising Ceilidh

Christmas Fayre session @ Woburn Sands

There will be a one off session at The Swan Hotel in Woburn Sands this coming Sunday afternoon (Nov. 27th) starting 4.30pm after the town's annual Christmas Fayre (see Vic's message on the board). Please note: Stik informs that the Sunday evening Wheatsheaf session in Bow Brickhill will be cancelled as the Swan session will clash.

Cock at Roade cancelled

Anja informs that the Wednesday sessions (1st & 3rd) at The Cock in Roade will be cancelled for the next two months so this week's session won't be happening it seems.

Ashwell Arms postponed

Geoff informs that this week's 1st Friday session at The Ashwell Arms in Leighton Buzzard has been postponed until November 11th due to the clash with Fireworks festivities.

The venue for to-day's (Oct 18th) OU session is now The Green Room (see Michelle's message).

10 years at The Swan

This coming Sunday, October 16th, will be the 10th anniversary of Ivor & Yvonne's popular session at The Swan in Old Stratford. They are hoping for a bumper turnout to help celebrate the evening and inform that the landlord has promised a surprise!

Chesham session

Of interest to those in more southerly locations will be an acoustic session at The Gamekeeper's Lodge in Chesham. It is on the 3rd Friday of the month starting 9.00pm (see Helen's message on the board). It has now been added to the listing.

OU session venue change
